Ukraine has been hit by a swathe of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that have targeted financial institutions as well as the nation’s Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces networks. This follows a number of attacks reported at the end of January which affected numerous Ukrainian official websites. Vodafone Portugal confirmed it has been subject to a cyber-attack which affected both 4G and 5G networks. The company says the network disruption began on the night of 7 February 2022 as a result of a malicious cyber-attack which was designed to cause damage and disruption. The incident affects the provision of services based on data networks, the 4G/5G network, fixed voice, television, SMS and voice/digital answering services. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has confirmed that the official website Ukraine.ua has been subject to a cyber-attack. The Ukraine.ua site was attacked on January 26. The digital portal for foreign audiences has been restored but the MFA has said temporary problems are still possible in the near future.
